BloodChoices is a free clinical tool designed to assist clinical decision-making by doctors, prescribers and other registered professionals in the management of patients where a transfusion of red blood cells may be indicated. It gives information on anaemia management and information should be covered during the informed consent process.BloodChoices is based on the 2015 NICE guidance of Blood Transfusion, British Society of Haematology and Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs guidance.
Blood Choices does not use or collect personal data on patients or users. Information is based on recognised guidelines and information is presented based on patient variables. Blood Choices should not be used as a substitute for professional or medical advice.
Blood Choices has been tested with experts in the field of blood transfusion and ongoing assessments will be made.
Users should recognise that some patients may misinterpret bedside smartphone use and should therefore be open with patients about the App. You may tell them that the App is not designed for the input of patient-identifying data and, at your discretion, inform them of its indicated outcomes.
